TYPES OF GARAGE DOORS

Let’s face it, when it comes to curb appeal, garage doors, thanks to the vast expanse of space they command at the front of a home, can make or break the looks of a home. When a homeowner replaces their garage door, keeping the sheer size and gravitas of a garage door in mind will help focus on exactly how essential the selection process is for maintaining or upgrading the appearance of the home.

It isn’t always easy to choose from the types of garage doors that are available. So, today we’re going to offer a rundown on all the significant types of garage doors and their features.

Sectional doors

So named for the sections which comprise the face of the door, a sectional garage door is the most popular option here in the U.S. Tracks with wheels on each side keep the door functioning smoothly, thanks to springs and cables. Hinges between sections allow the door to move along the bend to the ceiling of the garage when opened.  The sections are made from steel, but can also have windows, a variety of textures, colors, and decorative elements.

Roll-up doors

Roll-up doors are a more expensive, less popular option, and one which is used more frequently in storage facilities due to their sturdy, industrial strength and longevity. The name is derived from the way the slats fit snugly around a drum at the top of the door when it rolls up.

Tilt-up doors

A tilt-up door is a one-piece door that tilts on a pivot before rising to the garage ceiling. This mechanism requires much more clearance than the other garage door option. A tilt-up door is a more classic door than a sectional or roll-up option, and many people believe they are the most attractive option. A tilt-up door is often made of wood, giving it a highly elegant look. The drawback is that tilt-up doors can be the most expensive option, too.

While there are other types of garage doors, these three are the most commonly used in residential and commercial applications in the U.S.

For the homeowner, sometimes, choosing a garage door is often the process of selecting a new one that is the same type of door as the old, with perhaps better styling, windows, or a Smart garage door opener. For others, a new type of door may be a solid investment. We even offer custom garage doors.

A properly functioning garage door opener plays a considerable role in the beauty and security of a home. It also offers the convenience of entry and exiting the house, and storage for a variety of items. Regardless of which type of garage door a homeowner has, if it requires maintenance, repair, or even replacement, we can help.
